Acrylic is the most common choice for the majority of basketball hoops for the outdoors. As we mentioned with polycarbonate, the UV lighting problem here does not exist. You could leave acrylic to soak up those rays for days, weeks, months, or even years on end.
However, polycarbonate is marketed as being bullet proof whereas acrylic is not. Unfortunately, polycarbonate has one major drawback. When polycarbonate is exposed to UV light it becomes yellow, cloudy and brittle. W hen basketball backboards made from polycarbonate are used outdoors, they become very ugly due to yellowing, cloudiness and brittle in a matter of 3-5 years.

Polycarbonate: Polycarbonate is even more durable than the acrylic backboards. It looks like acrylic, feels like acrylic and even acts like acrylic but can take a rougher game of basketball. It is just stronger than your acrylic. They say you can’t even break it with a baseball bat; not that I would test that out.
The Acrylic Fusion board is a usually on beginner/intermediate basketball systems. Shatter-Proof Fusion. Shatter-Proof backboards are made with Makrolon polycarbonate, making them virtually unbreakable and many times stronger than acrylic.
